This educational resource fact book, plus story is designed to provide access to a selection of works by the Vincent van Gogh. Gentle audio guides describe van Gogh’s much loved works of art, including the bright yellow Sunflowers. This resource may support other subjects across the National Curriculum and is great for home-schooling, homework-help, project work and independent learning.

It also includes the picture book Camille and the Sunflowers by Laurence Anholt: Where Camille lives, the sunflowers grow so high they look like real suns. One day a strange man arrives in Camille’s town. He has a straw hat and a yellow beard and his name is Vincent van Gogh. Featuring stunning reproductions of the great artist’s work and based on a true-life incident as seen through the eyes of a small boy, this is the perfect introduction to Vincent van Gogh for children.

Listen to an audio clip

Above the edge of the table on the left a bud is hanging down from the vase. It has a smooth rounded middle bit on the left, this is the bud. A bud is a flower that hasn't bloomed fully yet. Around the bud are some curved spiky green bits, and then you may be able to feel the stem which bends upwards.
What matters about this picture is not to make out each little bit, but to feel the fun of the shapes. Vincent has painted buds, flowers in full bloom, and flowers which have lost all their petals, and are wilting because they are dying. All these shapes feel very different. Feel all over the mass of all the flowers for a moment and notice the different shapes.
