This fact book introduces the instruments of the orchestra using the piece of music The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten. The tactile picture descriptions are complemented with examples of the sounds of the musical instruments and excerpts of Britten’s composition. This fact book is designed as a natural progression from using Exploring Music 1, Peter and the Wolf. This resource may support subjects in the National Curriculum and is great as an educational resource in class. Also good for home-schooling, homework-help, project work, independent learning, reading and listening for pleasure.

It's shape has been twisted from a long metal tube, in the same way as the trumpet, but with more twists and turns. If the tube was uncurled and laid out straight it would probably reach across quite a large room, maybe your classroom at school, as it's almost 4 metres long. Stride it out if you can. It's about 5 or 6 of your strides. By twisting the tube into this coiled shape it is of course much easier to hold. The player certainly couldn't cope with a long straight instrument measuring almost 4 metres! Start at the top right hand side of the thermoform and you will find the mouthpiece. This is a small separate part that is slid into the tubing in the same way as the trumpet mouthpiece, but, as you can feel, it's slightly more funnel-shaped in order to produce a richer, smoother sound.

Loved it! Absolutely loved this pack! Thank you! Teacher
Families loved the pack It promoted good listening skills, concentration, being focused through touch, released tension and frustration. They particularly enjoyed matching the music and identifying different instruments to the real instruments taken into schools. Library Member
