Stick Man comes to life with Martin Freeman

31st May 2017

The newest addition to our Touch to See library for blind and partially sighted children is the wonderful Stick Man by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Our accessible version comes with our unique added extras to make story-time extra special for you and your little ones. The full-colour version of the mainstream published book is comb-bound with the story in braille, and includes raised, painted, tactile pictures, plus an atmospheric audio guide read by Martin Freeman, TV star (Sherlock Holmes) and Hollywood film actor (The Hobbit).

Blind and partially sighted children will love following the adventures of Stick Man, reading Julia Donaldson’s story in braille, feeling the raised pictures of the characters in the book (including Stick Man and the Stick Family), whilst enjoying Martin’s description of Axel Scheffler’s brilliant illustrations of Stick Man’s comical and calamitous adventure. Martin volunteered his voice and he incidentally voiced the animation of Stick Man.

We’ve also put together a sensory adventure with Stick Man for blind children to enjoy. It’s a great activity to accompany the book and helps to encourage linking the senses with creative and imaginative play.
