Meet a very helpful giant in this funny, big-hearted tale from the unparalleled picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo.
George was a giant, the scruffiest giant in town. He always wore the same pair of old brown sandals and the same old patched up gown. “I wish I wasn’t the scruffiest giant in town,” he said sadly.

Hello, my name’s Jim. Now this book is about George the giant who lives in a town with lots of different animals. The cover shows a red brick wall and the title of the book The Smartest Giant in Town is written in large white letters across the wall. On the left is the bottom half of the giants legs. Lots of animals are looking up and smiling at the enormous giant. There’s a goat, a fox, a dog and a family of mice. Turn over the front cover. On the right is our first feely picture which shows George the giant and he’s wearing two different outfits. On the left he’s wearing his scruffy clothes and on the right he wears smart clothes.
