Hunting By Night (Adult Touch to See Club)

Suitable for: Book Clubs

Sponsored by: Garfield Weston Foundation

Available braille grades:

Step into the woods and enjoy the night-time creatures come to life. Then explore the three topics; two hunters and one hunted. Listen out for the haunting sounds of the woodland habitat at night including the Tawny Owl and learn about bat detectors.

Listen to an audio clip

Running from the centre to left is a gnarled branch with a rounded end where it has been sawn off. Trace the top of this branch upwards and round until you feel three of the bird's toes. Above them, his full downy breast reaches to the most characteristic part of his body - his head. Feel his enormous eyes set in their large circles of radiating feathers. These make the look of the tawny owl so outstanding and appealing. The eye on the left is wide open, the other half closed - this is another owl characteristic and leads people to think that they are being blinked at!

Enjoyable and Interesting Members of our club on this occasion used Hunting by Night at home with their family members. They found the audio accompaniment particularly enjoyable and the topic very interesting. One member had not used Living Paintings resources before and really enjoyed the experience. Library Member

Used on a bat walk - very good We used 'Hunting by Night' in conjunction with going out on a night time bat walk and it really enhanced the activity. It was great for people to be able to feel the size and shape of a bat so they knew exactly what was flying around their heads! Open Country
