Don't try and be too ambitious to begin with. Your first bushcraft outing should be with your family or a group containing adults or responsible older teenagers. Try out a few of the skills we talk about in the book, such as lighting a campfire with a fire steel, but always have matches and alternative cooking equipment as back up. If you don't fancy building your own shelter to sleep in, pack a tent but try your hand at a natural shelter for daytime use. Always work with a group so that you can get help if you need it, until you feel confident enough to strike out on your own.
Wild camping is not permitted in many places so you'll need to do some research. Wherever you are, find out about organisations responsible for managing wild spaces, and contact them to find out their policy on camping and shelter building.

I enjoyed it My son especially liked the image of the camp fire and is also happy to recommend the book. He said "give it a go, its fun and will explain all about bushcraft and the outdoors, I enjoyed it!" Library Member
Fantastic Book This is absolutely a fantastic book to add to the Living Paintings Library. My daughter really enjoyed the descriptions of learning how to cook on a camp fire safely. Her brothers loved it too and it was really lovely to observe them sharing books together. It is very important for all children to access and participate in life skills and Living Paintings enables this to happen. Thank you. Library Member
