Most Enjoyable AlbumI would like to say thank you for a most enjoyable album. I can't say 'thanks' enough for the paint effect samples in this album. I absolutely loved them and am still totally in awe. It is just amazing to feel this 3D effect on an almost flat surface.Adult Member

Starting with an image of the magnificent 18th Century building that houses the secret treasure that is the Courtauld Gallery, this collection acknowledges the difficulty of chosing ten works, by including twelve! There is a special tactile board with examples of paint effects, brushwork and media used by some of the featured artists – who include Pieter Bruegel, Rubens, van Gogh and Gauguin.

In the world of the theatre, to take a box was to show that one was privileged. It was expensive and only seated a few people. Sometimes, as in this painting, it was reserved for just two people. A further privilege was to be able to withdraw to the back of the box where they had complete privacy; or to sit at the front and see and be seen by the audience. In this painting Renoir portrays a man and a woman sitting in their box. The young woman sits in front with her hand, in which she is holding her opera glasses, resting on the plush covered ledge at the front of the box. She is looking out at the viewer of the painting, not down at the stage. Her escort is a bearded gentleman in full evening dress sitting further back in the shadows.

Lovely selection of paintingsI have enjoyed them immensely. As ever, I found your texts, and their presentation by your readers, most interesting and delightfully clear. I also enjoyed feeling the panels illustrating the various painting techniques.Library Member
Incredible DetailThe thermoform of Ruben's family of Jan Bruegel is wonderful. The detail is incredible. Please thank the maker of the thermoform, they are very clever. I like the examples of the paint, it gives you a completely different idea of the paintings.Library Member
