In this dramatic fact book Gran takes Tom for a walk through lots of different places, describing the wildlife they see on the way. They go by a river, through woodland and across some farmland. Along the way they meet some famous people – Kate Humble is doing some wildlife filming and Chris Packham is doing a bat count. Music from Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals accompanies the descriptions except at the end when Scottish bagpipes accompany our description of The Monarch of the Glen by Landseer. This fact book may support subjects in the National Curriculum and could be used as an educational resource in class. Also good for home-schooling, homework-help, project work, independent learning and reading for pleasure.

Now find again the otter's head and face in the bottom right. It has a long nose and it's pointing down. Can you find its round eye and above is the curve of its ear. An otter's eyes and ears are quite small and it can close its ears and nostrils to keep the water out when it dives. Its eyes are set quite high on the head, so that it can see when the rest of the body is below water. The otter relies on its bristly whiskers if the water is murky. These pick up the vibrations in the water made by swimming fish and help to guide the otter to its prey.
