Three fantastic new Short Stories

We have added three more titles to our popular Short Stories range, bringing you some amazing storytelling from the worlds of theatre, film and art.

From Page to Stage is a fascinating, behind-the-scenes guide to the theatre and the transformation of much-loved books into fabulous stage productions. In Masters of the Silver Screen we invite you to take your seat at the movies to hear about the work of three influential film directors, Alfred Hitchock, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. This book is illustrated with tactile images from three of their most famous movies – Cary Grant in a scene from North by Northwest, the thrilling final encounter with Jaws and a montage of characters from Star Wars IV: A New Hope. In addition to the audio description for these images, Julian Fellowes talks about the life and work of Hitchcock and Warwick Davies provides some personal recollections of working with Lucas on the Star Wars films.

The final new title is Dreams, Poetry and the Mysteries of Love. This is an exploration of some great works of art that evoke an air of mystery, providing scope for us to fully engage our imaginations. Claude Lorrain’s The Enchanted Castle was inspired by the story of Cupid and Psyche and their doomed love affair and you can explore an image that subtly evokes Psyche’s great loss. Auguste Rodin’s sculpture Le Penseur (The Thinker) is known around the world and has been much copied, but you will hear about the fascinating origin and meaning of this pensive figure. The third image is the beautiful but melancholy Mermaid painted by John William Waterhouse, brushing her auburn hair at the edge of a rocky cove. The audio descriptions bring all three images to life and explain some of the hidden meanings behind these great works of art.
