Style icons are brought to life in Fashion Now!

The book starts in the 1950s with the birth of the teenager. It was during this decade that young people really started to rebel against their parents, adopting their own tastes in music, pastimes and fashion influenced by musicians and film stars of the time. The coolest style icons were people like Grace Kelly, Marlon Brando and James Dean. In their films they portrayed rebellious young men who refused to follow the rules. They wore jeans, white t-shirts and black leather motorbike jackets in stark contrast to the suit, shirt and tie that was the accepted standard of dress.
Fashion Now! also talks about the mavericks who created their own style that others rushed to copy. The greatest example of a trendsetter who evolved his image over time is David Bowie. He created different stage personalities with distinctive clothes, hair and make-up and even went as far as giving them names, from Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and The Thin White Duke.
