We’ve covered body parts to buoyancy, hydraulics to habitats, cells to satellites… our unique Science Alive! series for blind children is exploring light!
Featuring the voice of children’s television presenter, Katrina Bryan, Science Alive! Fantastic Light introduces key concepts of light to KS1 children with tactile images, audio and a braille book. Learning about the science of light, its manifestations and sources can be a potentially tricky subject for children with visual impairment to grasp but with our topical pack, young children can feel their way around this visual subject at their own pace and in a fun and engaging way.
The pack features tactile images of a rainbow, reflections and shadows, plus a tactile version of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Rescue by David and Rhona Armitage. In the book, we’ve included clear braille pages in grades 1 and 2, plus 3 additional ‘feely’ pictures that gently ground the science of light in a much-loved classic children’s story.
As ever, all of the tactile pictures are accompanied by audio descriptions that use age-appropriate language and cool sound effects. You can request the audio on either CD or USB.
