Music-production graduate Louis, 22, has been a member of Living Paintings since he was two years old after losing his sight due to complications with Neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer. Over the years, Louis has been an incredible support in road testing books and resources in development and continues to use the service to this day – a testament to the impact our charity has had on his life.
Those within our community will remember Louis for his amazing fundraising efforts; raising an incredible £25,000 to bring the wonderful world of Doctor Who to life through touch and sound for blind and visually impaired fans like him. Now, the first of our incredible Who experiences is being enjoyed by blind and visually impaired Whovians across the UK with further releases coming throughout the year. On his appointment, Louis said:
“I wasn’t expecting the call to become a trustee, but as soon as I was asked it was an emphatic yes! I have been involved with Living Paintings for as long as I can remember, so to take on this position is an honour and a privilege. The charity does such amazing work and, in my opinion, deserves far more recognition for the impact they have on the lives of blind and visually impaired people. As a trustee, I hope I can continue to raise awareness of their life changing service. I’m beyond excited to get started.”
Camilla Oldland, CEO of Living Paintings, said:
“When we had a vacant trustee position, I asked the team and the board if they had any thoughts on who to approach. Unanimously, they suggested Louis – such is the impact he has had on our work.
As a lifelong beneficiary, Louis knows our charity inside out. But beyond that, he is a hugely capable, highly intelligent individual who has overcome huge challenges with a positive attitude. His voice on our board of trustees will be invaluable. As a charity working towards a brighter future for blind and visually impaired children and young people – we can’t think of anybody better to advocate for the people we serve. Welcome to the team Louis!”
