Elmer’s Walk, a gentle celebration of mindfulness

6th September 2018

A wonderful celebration of mindfulness for young and old to share, Elmer’s Walk is the latest in author and illustrator David McKee’s much-loved Elmer series. This time round, the charming Patchwork Elephant takes a walk around his beautiful jungle home but can’t find anyone who wants enjoy its sights, sounds and smells with him – everyone’s just too busy. Luckily, Elmer’s friend Wilbur arrives and shares Elmer’s enjoyment of a wonderful starry night.

Our Touch to See version of this charming title has been made available for blind and partially sighted children on the very same day as it’s released in book shops up and down the country. The Living Paintings team – including our talented and dedicated volunteers – have been working hard to meet the book’s publication date so that children with visual impairments don’t miss out on this fantastic story. Although we’re not able to do this for every Touch to See picture book we adapt, we hope by producing a Touch to See version of Elmer’s Walk, we can raise awareness and even slightly narrow the gap between the amount of commercial picture books versus accessible books for blind children.
