Alan Davies lends his voice to Hugless Douglas

25th May 2016

We’re delighted to announce that blind and partially sighted children can now meet Hugless Douglas. This charming tale by David Melling, introducing lovable bear cub, Douglas, is available to borrow from our free Touch to See library.

Hugless Douglas tactile pictures, showing him hugging a tree, a rock and an owl in flight.

Pre-school children will love to feel Douglas’ chocolatey brown fur, long red scarf and round black nose on the tactile pictures and explore the animals he meets on his adventure – kind rabbit, grumpy owl and a flock of scaredy sheep.

The descriptive audio is brilliantly read by actor and comedian, Alan Davies. He brings gentle humour to this tale of the young bear cub who wakes from a long sleep in need of a good hug. His search for one leads him into some funny adventures and misunderstandings until, at last, he discovers the one person who can give him the perfect hug.

A bunny with open arms and sheep lined up one after the other, all on two legs.

Hugless Douglas is the perfect bedtime story for young children. They will adore Douglas and want to give him a big bear hug themselves! There’s also a handy guide at the back of the book telling you about lots of other types of hug to try, like the Daisy-Chain Hug shown above.
