The VikingsMy 8 year old son enjoyed having access to the same types of information as his peers, and also having pictures to describe and explain this period. It helped him to do independent research.Janine

This educational resource is designed to support History, Key Stage 2, on the National Curriculum. With the added fun of traveling back in time and meeting various Viking characters, the atmospheric experience of this resource will no doubt delight and inspire readers. Phil Harding, the famous archaeologist, tells us about his work and how we learn from artefacts found underground. Harald, a Viking warrior tells us about his travels and then his home-life. His wife Ingrid tells us about the family and the busy life of Viking women and children. And then Ivar the Chieftain tells us about their religion and Matilda and Thora describe their celebrations and Viking gods. The audio includes Norse music. This educational resource may support other subjects across the National Curriculum and is great for home-schooling, homework-help, project work and independent learning.

Vikings are highly skilled shipbuilders and ships are essential to our way of life. We build vessels of many different shapes and sizes. Our warships and merchant ships allow us to raid foreign lands and allow settlers and explorers to cross the seas in search of new land and riches. At home we use fishing boats, ferries and canoes. It's very difficult for us to travel around our land because we have many mountains, forests, bogs and deep snow. However, we have many rivers, lakes and inland waterways - so water is our easiest option when travelling around.

Used by the whole classThe pack was used to support learning in the class when the Longship and Archer and Swordsman commentaries were listened to by the whole class.Rose
Supports the topic in class superbly. The class also went to Danelaw (a Viking village near York) where they had a 'real' Viking experience so together with that it provided a fantastic learning experience. The class teacher was totally impressed with the materials. It also raised our children's self-esteem as they were often one step ahead of the class.Library Member
