The 1950s was an era which epitomised glamour and stylish dressing. Actresses such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe lit up cinema screens in their beautiful tight-waisted, full skirted dresses and suits. This book transports you back to this sophisticated time, when an outfit wasn’t complete without matching gloves and hat, and grooming was paramount. It’s also the time when the rebellious teenager was born and the heady excitement of rock ‘n’ roll transformed the way young people dressed, danced and partied.

Another great performer of this type of music, who went on to dominate the music of the 1950s, was Elvis Presley. Elvis arrived on the scene in the '50s, and his song "Heartbreak Hotel", which reached the top of the charts in 1956, changed the face of popular music forever. As well as making rock 'n' roll popular, he enabled R & B music to cross over to a wider audience. He was also the first musician to make consumer driven pop music. Plus he profited from merchandising products that bore his image and name and starred in his own films, like Jailhouse Rock.
