One hot summer afternoon, the bears William, Charles, Robert, Andrew, John, and Fred the dog, went off to the beach where they had a marvellous time.

Listen to an audio clip

Five bears and their dog decide that the best place for them, one beautiful hot summer's afternoon, is the beach!
The title of the book, The Bears who Went to the Seaside is on the front cover. There is a picture of all five bears having fun in the sea. The same picture appears later in the book, so we'll talk about it more then.
Turn over the cover and we'll meet our first feely picture of Robert, the bright yellow bear. Use both your hands to feel all over him. He has both arms up in the air either side of his round body and his head is facing sideways; his legs are bent because he is jumping. He is a fluffy bear with a smooth face and smooth pads to his paws.
Now, find the top edge of his two paws, either side of his head and feel the smooth, flat pads.
