A lovely family experience with our books

Cameron’s mum shares how our books are great for sharing with sighted siblings.
” Hello, my name is Carla and I am Cameron’s Mum.
Cameron is three years old and was born totally blind. He has recently started preschool, attending a specialist school three times a week. He is currently learning pre-braille skills.
We joined Living Paintings last year and although Cameron is yet to read braille it is always a great idea to introduce blind children to it at an early age and I strongly encourage other parents to do the same.
The Living Paintings tactile images are great to feel in the book, whilst we are explaining to him what they are. The text is on brailled pages, which help him get used to running his fingers along the dots.
Cameron’s big sister, Morgan, loves to read to him and guide his hand through the books. It’s so lovely to watch them enjoy something together and Living Paintings library service certainly helps promote interaction between them.
We are hoping one day Cameron will gain the skills to read independently but for now reading together is always a lovely family experience that we can all share.”
