“What’s it like to work at Living Paintings?”

12th May 2026

What better way to see the heart of a charity than to hear from its staff. This is what drives us to get up in the morning. And if you like the sound of all of this positivity we’re currently hiring so please have a look at our available role.

“What’s it like to work at Living Paintings?”

Toby Smith,, Communications Assistant at Living Paintings

“I love working at Living Paintings. Our audio tactile books are such a wonderful product, so it’s always easy to talk about them – whether that’s in social media posts, web pieces, press releases, or with those who aren’t aware of the charity.

“Part of my job is speaking directly with beneficiaries, so I hear all the time about the impact our work has on the people who use our books and for me that makes it all the more special.” Toby Smith, Communications Assistant

Nicola Dymond, Production Assistant at Living Paintings

“I feel privileged to work alongside our volunteers. They are a warm, friendly, loving bunch who give up their time every week to support a special charity. Without them, we couldn’t do half of what we do!

“I’m in awe of their talents and love spending time with them to create a bit of magic for those who are visually impaired or blind so they too can enjoy picture books alongside their family and friends.” Nicola Dymond, Production Assistant

Stephanie Tollman, Fundraising Officer at Living Paintings

“I feel a strong sense of pride when telling people where I work and of the incredible service we provide. I don’t think many jobs make you feel this way. Living Paintings really does make a difference to all of the children and families using our unique audio tactile resources.” Stephanie Tollman, Fundraising Officer

Amanda Hatcher, Community Fundraiser at Living Paintings

“Whenever I speak to people about Living Paintings, I find myself gushing about the product, the people and the impact we make in the lives of our beneficiaries and beyond.  It is hard not to be proud of all the elements that make up the Living Paintings community.” Amanda Hatcher, Community Fundraiser

Lucie Steel, Office Manager at Living Paintings

“I love working at Living Paintings because every day we work means that beautiful tactile books continue to go out from our free lending library to children who are visually impaired or blind all over the UK, filling their days with joy and possibilities.” Lucie Steel, Office Manager

Andrea Austin, Library Assistant at Living Paintings

“What I most enjoy about working at Living Paintings is that no two days are the same. An ‘ordinary’ day in the Living Paintings library might include accepting a postal delivery of 75 orange boxes, searching for a book for a toddler who loves animals, sending promotional leaflets to a local authority, talking on the phone to a borrower, and chatting with our amazing volunteers who are so passionate about our library…

“Who wouldn’t want to work in a place with such variety and where everything you do has a positive impact on our beneficiaries’ lives?” Andrea Austin, Library Coordinator

Behind every Living Paintings book is a group of people who care deeply about making the visual world of picture books and learning accessible to children who are blind and visually impaired. These are just a few of the voices that make Living Paintings what it is.
