This week, June 1st to 7th 2026, is Volunteers’ Week. The UK’s annual celebration of the millions of people who give their time to make communities better. At Living Paintings, it’s a week that means everything to us.
We create audio tactile books for children who are blind or visually impaired. This needs skills and experience to bring the physical books to life. We need artisan carvers, script writers, painters, production support to physically create the books, someone to read the audio descriptions and people to manage the library to receive and send out our special books every day.
We have a small staff so without our army of volunteers we simply couldn’t do this. Last year, our volunteers gave us 12,000 hours of their time.
“I’ve known a number of people in my life who are visually impaired and it’s good to have an opportunity to do something that will help them.”Stevie Production Crew
“I’m grateful to have the time to be able to come here and the privilege to paint these lovely pictures and know that we’re enhancing the lives of children who are blind and visually impaired.”Mim Painter
“It’s great to think that children who are blind are going to get the joy of reading and books that many of us have always enjoyed and remember from our own childhoods.”Avril Production Crew
If you’d like to volunteer with us please get in touch to find out what skills we’re currently looking for or sign up to our newsletter to hear first when a new role becomes available.
