We’ve been taking part in The Big Give Arts for Impact campaign (17th – 24th March), raising funds to create an accessible version of Russell Tovey’s Art School (In a Book). We’ve been overwhelmed by the support so far, including from some very familiar faces…
The beloved illustrator of countless classics including the Gruffalo, Axel Scheffler’s artwork has filled bedrooms, classrooms, and imaginations across the world.
Axel has been a long-time supporter of Living Paintings, which is something we’ve been so grateful for. Over the years, we’ve adapted sixteen Julia/Axel titles into audio tactile books for blind and visually impaired children, and they’re always popular amongst our beneficiaries.
Thank you so much, Axel.
Whilst he’s not cycling miles for Comic Relief, radio presenter Greg James can also be found in a recording studio, reading our audio descriptive guide to Supertato and bringing its delightful illustrations to life for blind children!
Watch how, thanks to the combined experience of feeling the tactile images and listening to the audio guide, Mia is able to engage with the illustrations and the story in a way that works just for her – through touch and sound.
Thank you, Greg, for helping blind and visually impaired children access art.
We still have a few days until the campaign closes. Look out for more familiar names on the way!
