Role Purpose
We are looking for a creative and proactive Communications Officer to manage our communications activity on a part-time basis. You will help us tell our story, grow our audience, and support our fundraising campaigns, ensuring that the work we do reaches the people who need it, and those who can help make it possible.
Key Responsibilities
Content and Communications
- Write and distribute regular digital newsletters to supporters, donors, and stakeholders
- Draft press releases, blog posts, and impact stories that showcase the charity’s work
- Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and freshness
Campaigns and Fundraising Support
- Support fundraising campaigns including matched giving initiatives, creating compelling digital assets and copy
- To develop communications strategies for key campaigns and events
- Manage campaign content calendars, scheduling regular communications using platforms like Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor
Brand and Design
- Ensure all communications are on-brand and consistent in tone and visual identity
- Create graphics and visual content using tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite
- Manage relationships with external designers or agencies where required
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify opportunities for media coverage, partnerships, and collaborations
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and sector contacts
- Support the cultivation of donor and supporter relationships through targeted communications
Analytics and Reporting
- Monitor and report on the performance of communications activity, including social media analytics, email open rates, and website traffic
- Use insight to continuously improve content and campaign effectiveness
Person Specification
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in communications, marketing, or a related field
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences
- Proficiency in email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, or similar)
- Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and meet deadlines
- A genuine commitment to the charity’s mission and values
Desirable
- Experience working in the charity, publishing, arts, education, or social impact sector
- Familiarity with digital fundraising platforms (e.g. JustGiving, Enthuse, Big Give)
- Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe)
- Experience with Google Analytics and social media analytics tools
- Knowledge of GDPR as it applies to digital communications
