Squirrel is back, and he’s enjoying the long, sunny summer days. But wait! Why is Bird going to bed when the sun is still up? What a silly idea! Squirrel could never fall asleep while it’s still light… And when the sun starts to disappear earlier and earlier each night, Squirrel is convinced there MUST be a sun thief about! Join Squirrel on a mission to find the culprit, and meet some new nocturnal friends along the way. Luckily, the sun always comes out in the end … even if it doesn’t stay for long!

Listen to an audio clip

This book is all about the time of year when the summer comes to an end. When things slowly start to change and the days begin to get a little shorter. Below the moon stands a furry, red squirrel standing on his two back legs. In his front paws he’s holding a torch under his chin which lights up his whole face. In front of Squirrel is his friend, Bird, who’s wearing a pink stripy nightcap. Bird is facing Squirrel and looks very excited. Oh - but what have I forgotten? Of course! His huge, bushy tail on the left! (Short Pause) Does it feel different to the rest of his body? (Short Pause) Squirrel uses his wonderful tail to help him balance! At the top of the picture, on the right, is Squirrel’s best friend, Bird. Bird is a Blue Tit with a yellow tummy, and blue wings and tail. Just like his friend, he has his head turned to the right. At the top of his head are two, little, black feathers.
