A plucky robin, lost and alone, sets out on an epic journey guided only by a call in his heart saying “come home!” He wills his wings to beat faster, lifting him over great mountains and dark forests, through blinding blizzards and rolling fog, across the wide, wild sea. Can he find his way back to his family in time for Christmas? Combined with Kerry Hyndman’s striking illustrations of the red-breasted bird against a sweeping, snowy terrain, Michael Morpurgo’s poetic narrative will stir any reader who has ever yearned to reunite with loved ones or welcome them home.

[Robin Birdsong]
This book is about a robin from Scandinavia and the long journey it makes each year to find food and to look for another robin to pair up with. In winter, robins from Scandinavia fly south to find food and warmth. Some travel all the way to Britain, crossing snowy forests, fields, and rivers, and the North Sea!

This robin is standing on a wooden gatepost, which is covered in snow. Can you feel the soft wavy edges of the snow? It’s a bit like the icing on a Christmas cake! Below this is the wooden gatepost. To the left of the gatepost is a sprig of holly. There are two, green leaves and two, bright-red berries. Holly leaves have spiky, pointed edges and feel very prickly. Trace around one of the leaves.

Very Poetic I think it is awesome how it is written from the bird perspective. It is very poetic, I love the bit where it says spinning, tumbling, falling. Library Member
