I’m going to share a story called ‘And Tango Makes Three’. It’s actually a true story that takes place in Central Park Zoo in New York, where two penguins meet and start a family. The picture on the book cover shows the three main characters – Roy and Silo, the penguins, and their little chick, Tango. They’re standing on grey rocks, with a pale blue sky above. Both Roy and Silo are Chinstrap Penguins, which means they have a black stripe under their chin – a bit like the strap on a helmet! Below his face, feel the raised shape of the strap. Peeping out from underneath his tummy is one little grey foot, on this side of his body. On the left-hand page is a picture of Roy and Silo’s nest. It’s a ring of rocks and pebbles that they have carefully built, but it’s empty. Their heads are peering into the nest and they look a bit confused. On the left-hand page, Silo is sitting on the nest with the egg under his tummy. The word ‘Peep!’ is written above the egg, with little lines to show it’s moving! Roy is bending over, looking at the egg with a very excited expression.
